Mika Nakamura, percussion
Born and raised in Southern California, Mika Nakamura began studying percussion at age eighteen. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she received numerous awards and scholarships, including the 2015 All-Star Concerto Competition. While at UCLA, she studied with Mitchell Peters, Raynor Carroll and Theresa Dimond.
Mika is currently studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Jacob Nissly, Jack Van Geem, Trey Wyatt and Ed Stephan. Since moving to the Bay Area, she has become an especially avid member of the new music community, serving on the administrative team for the Hot Air Music Festival, a student-organized new music marathon, since 2016 and currently acting as Festival Director for the second consecutive year.
When she's not music making, Mika also enjoys cooking, baking and running in her spare time.
